Haus Obsessed
Coco Chanel is an inspiration to everyone in the fashion/design world and her apartment is definitely an extension of that inspiration. The art deco staircase is juxtaposed with the classic, ornate feel of the rooms. You would imagine that this would not be possible, but Coco Chanel pulls it off flawlessly. And that staircase! Completely surrounded by mirrors it makes for quite an optical illusion. I can imagine some boozy encounters (and tumbles) at her parties, especially with the crew that she used to entertain. Coco’s place really touches on a little of every culture and style. From a Asian themed screen to a gilded ornate settee to an African inspired clock and even a wheatsheaf, one would imagine that an apartment filled with these pieces would be cluttered. Instead her space retains a grand yet homey feel, a place you wouldn’t be afraid to get comfortable with a lengthy novel or even bring the queen for dinner. Maybe it’s the amount of gold or the abundance of large books, but whatever it is, she does it well. I definitely wouldn’t mind curling up on that sofa and opening up a Fitzgerald novel, or even better, one of Ms Chanel’s sketchbooks.

Your posts are always chock full of info, and this one does not disappoint. Coco only invited certain people to sit on her camel sofa, and that really fit into her mysterious persona. Her salon is a time capsule, and elicits shivers from me, as this era was ultra special. If only the walls could talk, as that well-known saying goes. Thanks for this post!
